Off to a Land Down Under

I was planning on creating this blog post directly on the website, but unfortunately I’ve forgotten that the majority of airports in the United States request that you actually pay to have wifi. It’s ok, I understand that it costs money and there’s so many people just waiting to mooch off the data available, but still… Makes me miss chilling around in the Seoul airport for hours.

I haven’t been able to post anything in awhile because I was having any website issues and couldn’t access my blog, but it’s now been resolved. Additionally, work has been a cluster. Seriously. It went from one side of the spectrum all the way to the other end and now I’m floating around somewhere in the middle (on most days) of not being content and not being bored. I just keep my fingers crossed that everything will get resolved soon enough. It’s always a tricky thing, blogging about work and your professional life because you don’t want to state specific things that could get you in trouble, but if you can’t complain every once in awhile, you might as well not talk about work at all. Oh, what a fine line we walk along.

Anyways, I’m currently passing hours of time at LAX waiting to get on a flight that will ship me off to Melbourne. Yup, Melbourne Australia, versus the one in Florida. It’s specifically for work, which everyone I know say it’s incredibly crazy/exciting/and omg they are so jealous(!!!). At first I was extremely unhappy about the decision that I would be shipped off to Australia, mainly because I was told two weeks before I had to go… that I had to go. Add on the fact that I have some (slight) issues with flying, and I was not a happy camper. And being away from my boyfriend and two dogs for two whole weeks? What?!

But then everything at work basically exploded during the past week and a half and I’m now at the point where I am more than happy to get away from the majority of those I work with. Granted, I will still be in Australia with a few team members, but I get along with them for the most part and do respect them, even if sometimes we all don’t see eye to eye.

The work over the past few weeks have been pretty crazy too. Not in a “oh my gosh, there is just so much work to do!!!” way but more along the lines of “OMFG we did not plan properly and this is a fire drill, I repeat, this is a FIRE DRILL!!!”. It is a little frustrating because at the end of the day, I was pulled into this situation because 1) technically I am an available resource, 2) I will be performing a lot of this work by myself later in the year, and 3) it’s… technically my job. But it is frustrating when I think about how so many of the issues that popped up could have been nipped in the bud and we wouldn’t be in such a mess right now. But I suppose that is the life of an auditor, huh? Nothing ever goes to plan, no matter how much you plan beforehand.

Anyways, I will be hanging out in Melbourne for the next two weeks, and I do hope I find some time to myself to roam around the city. I’ve never roamed anywhere internationally by myself, and my boyfriend is more than slightly jealous as that’s something on his bucket list that he wanted to do. I’m just hoping I have some alone time – as an introvert I really don’t care to hang out with anyone that I am not that close to for an extended period of time – and get to explore the city. And see dingos. And koalas. I’m also planning on doing some serious souvenir shopping, but I am concerned by the (lack of) space that I have for all those items. It seems like I have packed a little too much… But what can I do? It’d be horrible if I woke up one day to go to work and realized that I did not have anything to wear!!

I also promised my boyfriend that I will eat healthy and work out, since you know… Brazil is only about a month away. We’ll see how that goes, but I am hopeful since 1/3 of the clothes that I packed in my suitcase were athletic in nature. It would be a waste if I spent all that time (and took up so much space!) and didn’t use these clothes. So fingers crossed.

Now, if only I can figure out what terminal my flight is departing from…
